COMING SUMMER 2011 – VINS NATURE CAMPS & THE UGLY DUCKLING

Jan 1, 2011 by

VINS Nature Camp – Theatre in the Wild – Inspired by the theatrics of Mother Nature herself, Theatre in the Wild will bring out your child’s inner thespian. Perfect for introverts and extroverts alike, this session will allow your child to develop confidence, coordination and self-expression, while gaining knowledge and inspiration from the woods and wetlands of New Hampshire. With the expert assistance of Vermont PuppeTree, campers will discover the joy and wonder of puppet theater as they create their own unique puppets. On the final day of camp, everyone is invited to enjoy an original puppet show wherein campers will show off their creative talents, puppetry skills, and newfound knowledge of the natural world. The professional cast of the PuppeTree will join the children in their performance.

July 18 – 22
August 15 – 19

Coming in August – In this new production of the Ugly Duckling, The PuppeTree Inc. has formed a partnership with the Vermont Institute of Natural Science (VINS) to achieve the following goals:

(1) to design puppets that accurately represent different bird species

(2) to design hands-on workshops that teach adults, children, and families about ecology and puppetry as they design and construct puppets of their own

(3) to design lesson plans on the science of flight, the biology of birds (ornithology), and the importance of birds to human and natural systems

(4) to perform puppet shows and workshops at the VINS Nature Center and other venues, and

(5) to use the art form of puppetry to engage broad and diverse audiences in VINS’ important mission, especially to foster stewardship of birds and the natural world—ultimately to encourage young audiences to become involved in “watching out” for birds, not just bird watching.

Just a few dates left in August,
but great dates open mid-October to
the first week of December 2011
